Mayor John Franklin made the following statement: “I am humbled by the support I have received from voters, grassroots leaders, elected officials, party leaders and contributors. Jim Desmond has done a great job as Supervisor. The people of North County want a solid conservative to follow in his footsteps. The people support me because I am focused on restoring Law and Order. I will stand against wasteful spending, like the County funding attorneys for illegal aliens. I will end the budget deficit and restore the Sheriff’s and District Attorney’s budgets without raising taxes. I will stand up for North County’s moral values, including defending God, families and parents’ rights.
I will fight to solve homelessness in San Diego County by restoring the tough love conservatorship law enacted by Governor Ronald Reagan in 1967 which recognized that those who are ““gravely disabled,” as a result of a mental health disorder, a severe substance use disorder, or a co-occurring mental health disorder and a severe substance use disorder, [are] unable to provide for their basic personal needs for food, clothing, shelter, personal safety, or necessary medical care. (WIC § 5008(h)).” San Diego County utilizes conservatorship as much as 11.2 times less than other large jurisdictions, and this tool is directly overseen by the Board of Supervisors in their oversight over the County Conservator and County Mental Health Department.”
For context, Supervisor Jim Desmond reported raising cash receipts of $1,030,910 during the 2021-2022 election cycle.
